Hiss Band
Founded in Stuttgart in 1995, HISS has evolved since its beginnings in a register located between folk-rock, polka and rock’n’roll, with detours into blues, country, waltz and Latin American colors. The group formed around Stefan Hiss on vocals and accordion, Michael Roth on harmonica and Volker Schuh on bass, in continuity with a local scene where the musicians had already played together beforehand. HISS long defined its music as 'Polka’n’Roll', a formula that nicely sums up a sound centered on the accordion, dance rhythms and songs that blend band energy, humor and a background of musical cabaret. The trajectory of HISS has been built as much in the studio as on stage, with regular touring activity in Germany and several lineup changes without calling its identity into question. Its discography includes Herz und Verrat (1997), Tut Buße (1998), Tränen, Tabak und Tequila (2001), Polka für die Welt (2004), 10J – Live in der Scala (2006), Zeugen des Verfalls (2008), Das Gesetz der Prärie (2013), Südsee, Sehnsucht und Skorbut (2018), 25 Jahre HISS (2022) and Für eine Handvoll Cent (2025). Over the years, HISS has thus developed a repertoire anchored in popular traditions but treated with contemporary writing and staging.
