Séamus and Caoimhe Uí Fhlatharta
Originally from An Áird Mhóir, in the Gaeltacht region of Connemara, in County Galway, Séamus and Caoimhe Uí Fhlatharta develop a repertoire rooted in the Irish tradition, between sean-nós singing, English ballads and vocal arrangements drawn from a family lineage of musicians. Brother and sister, they work on the complementarity of their voices in restrained harmonies that extend the aesthetics of the unaccompanied voice while opening it to more arranged forms of interpretation. Their practice is not limited to singing: both are also instrumentalists and Irish dancers, with a background tied to traditional competitions in Ireland. Séamus and Caoimhe Uí Fhlatharta reached a wider audience in 2022 with their interpretation of Anach Cuain on the Late Late Show, a performance that circulated widely online and drew attention to their approach to the traditional repertoire. Their first EP, produced by Brian Whelan and Bill Whelan and recorded at The Fort, Roundstone in Connemara, extends this artistic line, between the Irish language, oral transmission and precise work on the texture of the voices.
