Electric Eel Shock
Formed in Tokyo in 1994, Electric Eel Shock brings together Akihito Morimoto, Kazuto Maekawa and Tomoharu Ito in a trio that blends garage rock, hard rock, rock and roll and heavy metal with a direct, punchy sound and energy clearly shaped by live performance. The band comes together after Morimoto and Maekawa met in Osaka during high school, before settling in Tokyo and trimming a initially broader lineup to a tighter configuration. Electric Eel Shock released its first albums in the late 1990s, with Maybe... I Think We Can Beat Nirvana in 1997, Live Punctured in 1998 and Slayers Bay Blues in 1999, at the moment when the band began touring outside Japan, first in the United States and then more consistently in Europe. This international circulation becomes a central axis of their career, with appearances on stages such as CBGB, SXSW or Roskilde, and tours led both as a headliner and alongside bands like Danko Jones, Bloodhound Gang or The Presidents of the United States of America. The discography then expands with Go Europe! in 2004, Go USA! and Beat Me in 2005, Transworld Ultra Rock in 2007, Sugoi Indeed in 2009, Sweet Generation in 2017 and Heavy Metal Black Belt in 2024. Over the years, Electric Eel Shock has maintained this identity built on simple riffs, a pronounced rhythmic drive and a constant cross between punk spirit, classic hard rock and metal.
