Pavlo

Born in Toronto in 1969 into a Greek family from Kastoria, Pavlo Simtikidis, who performs under the name Pavlo, develops an instrumental repertoire centered on the guitar at the crossroads of new flamenco, Latin Mediterranean music, Latin jazz and an accessible pop-writing style. Active since the late 1990s, Pavlo first made his mark with Pavlo in 1998, followed by Fantasia in 2000, two albums that establish his signature of clear melodies, danceable rhythms and Greek, Spanish and Latin American influences. His discography subsequently includes I Feel Love Again (2002), Irresistible (2006), Six String Blvd (2011), Together (2019) and Santorini (2022), as well as several live recordings. In 2009, Pavlo participated in Trifecta with Oscar Lopez and Rik Emmett, a three-player guitar project that extends his interest in exchanges between acoustic styles and transnational repertoires. His career is anchored as much in jazz and world music circuits as in mainstream concert venues, with regular appearances in North America. Pavlo's playing emphasizes fluidity, singable themes and a Mediterranean approach to the guitar where rumba flamenca, Greek colors and Latin inflections mingle.
