Witch Hook

Born in Bristol, Witch Hook operates in a register between post-punk, 1990s grunge and alternative rock tinged with gothic aesthetics. Formed in 2021, the band has undergone several lineup changes before settling as a quartet around Dott, V, Harry and Jake, while remaining anchored in the South West England alternative scene. Witch Hook develops a melancholic and tense sound, where abrasive guitars, dark bass lines and rhythmic tension cross influences from 1980s post-punk as well as a more upfront rock. Their visual and lyric universe draws on the imagery of B-movie horror films, Gothic literature and personal narratives about love, loss, desire and anger. After several appearances on Bristol stages, notably Thekla, The Fleece, Exchange or The Louisiana, Witch Hook has also made their mark in festivals such as Dot to Dot and Attitude Festival, as well as through a broadcast on BBC Introducing. The track Beguilement marks a recent milestone in their journey and confirms the evolution of a project that moves between dark rock, alt-punk and post-grunge sensibility.
