The Mechanist
Formed in Yorkshire, The Mechanist evolves between technical metalcore, djent and progressive metal, with a sound marked by contrasts between staccato riffs, heavy grooves, airier melodic lines and electronic textures. Since its beginnings, the band has developed an aesthetic tied to an industrial, mechanical imagery, in line with its origins in the north of England. As a quartet, The Mechanist comprises James Cheal on vocals, Sam Butterfield and Jack McCaffrey on guitars, and Les Harrison on drums. Their trajectory was initially built on the British scene for heavy, technical music, through shows shared with bands such as InVisions, Our Hollow, Our Home, Uneven Structure, Sarah Longfield, or Hacktivist, as well as appearances at UK Tech Fest and on several dates connected to this ecosystem. This movement between modern metal, progressive and melodic hardcore is reflected in The Mechanist's writing, which alternates rhythmic tension, abrasive vocals, and more open passages. In April 2026, The Mechanist released Synthetic Sun, their first album, extending this identity—dense, aggressive and structured around precise arrangements.
