Varsovie

Founded in Grenoble in 2005 by Grégory Cathérina and Arnault Destal, both formerly with Forbidden Site, Varsovie develops a French-language post-punk situated between dark rock, tight punk and gothic rock, with dry or incisive guitars, a martial rhythm and lyrics with strong literary and historical charge. Initially noticed with the demo Some Days in 2005 and then the EP Neuf millimètres in 2006, the duo subsequently released the albums État civil (2009), L’Heure et la trajectoire (2014), Coups et blessures (2018), L’Ombre et la Nuit (2021) and Pression à froid (2023), before Déviation in 2024, a record conceived for the band's twenty-year anniversary around covers and reinterpretations of its repertoire. Varsowie sits in a European post-punk scene where cold wave, gothic rock and punk heritage intersect, while maintaining writing that is more frontal than contemplative. The band has regularly played in France and elsewhere in Europe since the mid-2000s, at festivals such as Drop Dead Festival in Prague or Sui Generis Madrid, with Gilles Moinet on bass on stage since 2021. The sixth studio album, Notes pour plus tard, is announced for 2026 on Icy Cold Records.
