Exchpoptrue

Active in Paris since the early 2000s, Exchpoptrue evolves at the crossroads of electroclash, dark disco, italo disco and a deliberately upfront synth-pop, with a marked taste for direct choruses, dry electronic textures and a club-inspired imagination nourished by humor and glamour. The project first drew attention on Paris's nightclub scenes before circulating in European clubs, notably in Italy, where the track 'Discoteca' established itself in 2003 and gave Exchpoptrue broader visibility. This track, long associated with the group's identity, later experienced renewed circulation through various compilations and images, notably in Paolo Sorrentino's La Grande Bellezza and in the series Vernon Subutex. On stage, Exchpoptrue develops a performative format, often with dancers, which prolongs the project's queer and theatrical aesthetics without diminishing its pop effectiveness. Over the years, Exchpoptrue has maintained this line between dancefloor energy, synthetic melancholy and an ironic look at social codes. Their recent repertoire continues this approach with a rougher writing, in which italo and dark disco remain central references.
