Christian Kjellvander
Born in 1976 in Sweden and having spent part of his childhood in the United States, Christian Kjellvander developed a songwriting voice nourished by both the Americana tradition and the Scandinavian independent scene. After attracting attention in the 1990s with the indie alt‑country band Loosegoats, he launched a solo career in 2002 with the album Songs from a Two‑Room Chapel, which already featured slow ballads, spare guitar and a deep voice serving narrative lyrics. Settled in Sweden, Kjellvander went on to release a series of records that explore a blend of folk rock, alternative country and slow rock, including The Rough and Rynge (2010), The Painted Tree (2016), About Love and Loving Again (2020) and Hold Your Love Still (2022). His writing favors stretched tempos, dark atmospheres and imagery of wide open spaces, while remaining rooted in intimate storytelling. Regularly present on European stages, he performs in electric lineups or in more stripped‑down settings and occasionally engages in collective projects, such as his collaboration with the Swedish group Tonbruket on the album Doom Country (2020).
