Cami Layé Okún
Based in Havana, Cami Layé Okún develops a DJ practice centered on vinyl and the circulation of music among African, Caribbean and Latin American diasporas. Her approach draws from a broad spectrum of tropical rhythms, tribal percussion, African music, Caribbean grooves and Latin sensibilities, with selections conceived more as storytelling than as a sequence of genres. Cami Layé Okún aims to make old, rare, or little-diffused sounds dialogue with the energy of the contemporary dancefloor, highlighting repertoires from different territories and cultural contexts. From Cuba, she also participates in organizing vinyl-centered events, in a local rooting that directly feeds the warmth and texture of her sets. This musical line extends to radio with Insolar, her show on NTS, where Cami Layé Okún more freely explores the links between sound archives, popular music and transatlantic circulations.
