Lech Janerka

Born in Wrocław, Poland, Lech Janerka established himself at the end of the 1970s with Klaus Mitffoch, a new wave and post-punk outfit in which he was the bassist, singer and principal author. In this group, as in his solo career which began in the mid-1980s, Lech Janerka develops a distinctive writing, nourished by alternative rock, cold wave and post-punk tensions, with prominent bass lines, angular melodies and a deep voice that gives his tracks an immediately identifiable color. His first solo album, Historia podwodna, in 1986, marks a shift toward forms more restrained and more open to unusual textures, followed by Piosenki in 1989, Ur in 1991, Bruhaha in 1994, Dobranoc in 1997, Fiu fiu… in 2002, Plagiaty in 2005 and then Gipsowy odlew falsyfikatu in 2023. Over the decades, Lech Janerka remains linked to the Polish scene while pursuing a deliberately lateral trajectory, between concerts, prolonged pauses and sporadic collaborations with other independent rock musicians of the country. His songs, often built on dissonance, irony and wordplay, accompany music that oscillates between the dryness of rock, nervous tension and acoustic minimalism.
