Marialy Pacheco

Born in Havana and based in Germany, Marialy Pacheco develops a career that sits at the intersection of Cuban jazz, Latin jazz, improvised music and classical repertoire. A pianist trained in Cuba, she drew international attention in 2012 by winning the Montreux Jazz Festival Solo Piano Competition, becoming the first woman to be honored by this competition. Pacheco's playing combines a strong rhythmic foundation, melodic writing nourished by Cuban traditions, and a pronounced sense of dialogue, whether in solo or in duo, in trio or with an orchestra. Over the years, she has performed at festivals and venues across Europe, the United States and beyond, moving from jazz clubs to symphonic ensembles, which highlights the breadth of her repertoire. Her discography includes Duets (2017), built around encounters with several musicians from jazz and world music; Danzón Cubano (2019), recorded with her trio and the WDR Funkhausorchester; Manos (2022), in duo with Omar Sosa; and Reload (2022), which extends her work around Cuban and Latin American forms in an approach open to contemporary jazz. Marialy Pacheco also interprets works from the classical repertoire, among which Bach's Piano Concerto in G minor, addressed in the context of orchestra concerts in 2025.
