Sunwell

Based in Hauts-de-France, Sunwell is the solo project of Elya, who is also involved in Death By Fog, Deûle, Morveux and more recently Ladeûlas. Sunwell unfolds in a register situated between dark folk, drone and vocal experiments, with compositions built on repetitive loops, minimal textures and a voice that draws as much from incantation as from song. The aesthetics remain pared-down, obscure and frontal, in an intimate format that contrasts with the intensity of the sonic climate. The project first drew attention on the Hauts-de-France local scene, notably in independent venues like Le Mono, before circulating more widely on European roads, including alongside Sophia Djebel Rose. This journey highlights the form taken by Sunwell, between on-stage wandering, ritual tension and tightened writing. Through this solo, Elya develops a personal language where repetition, breath and vocal material occupy a central place, in a meeting zone between gothic song, rugged ambient and experimental folk.
