Pop Crimes
Formed in Paris in 2019, Pop Crimes brings together Romain, who previously passed through En Attendant Ana, Morgane, former member of Blondi’s Salvation, Nicolas from Young Like Old Men and Quentin around an indie rock nourished by clear guitars, melodic tension and a discreet post-punk sensibility. From its beginnings, the quartet released the EP Debuts, issued on Howlin’ Banana Records, where references to British and American indie pop of the 1980s and 1990s surface, between sober melodies, slightly hazy textures and direct energy. Pop Crimes then went on to play shows and appeared on stages shared with bands such as The Murder Capital, Mourn, Night Beats, Dignan Porch or The Homesick, which accompanied the establishment of a denser sound. With the single Up To The Moon / There Were Smiles, released as a 7-inch single on Safe In The Rain Records and Howlin’ Banana, Pop Crimes evolves its writing toward more introspective pieces, where ballads take on a darker and more atmospheric hue. This direction continues with the EP Don’t Look Back, released in 2023, followed by Gathered Together, the first album published the same year by Howlin’ Banana Records, Safe In The Rain Records and Les Disques du Paradis. On this record, Pop Crimes develops a broader indie rock, traversed by interwoven guitars, discreet keyboards and writing that alternates between tension, restraint and more nerve-wracking surges.
