Iron Lung

Formed in Reno, Nevada in 1999 before settling in Seattle, Iron Lung brings together Jensen Ward on drums and Jon Kortland on guitar, the two also providing vocals in a two-person format kept to the essentials. Their music sits within the most abrasive hardcore punk, on the powerviolence side, with very short tracks, abrupt tempo changes, a constant tension and a dense sound that also borrows from certain forms of grind and noise punk. Iron Lung built itself in the North American DIY circuit and then on tours in Europe, Asia and Australia, multiplying splits and releases on labels such as Prank, 625 Thrashcore, Six Weeks, No Idea and their own Iron Lung Records. Among the verifiable discographical landmarks are Life. Iron Lung. Death. in 2002, Sexless // No Sex in 2007, White Glove Test in 2013 and Adapting // Crawling in 2024. Over the years, Iron Lung has also pursued several side projects and collaborations tied to the same scene, notably with Hatred Surge, while Jon Kortland and Jensen Ward remain associated with other outfits and graphic works from the world of experimental punk.
