Chimo Bayo

Born in Valencia, Spain, in 1961, Joaquín Isidoro Bayo Gómez established himself from the 1980s in clubs on the Valencian coast under the name Chimo Bayo, first as a DJ in venues linked to the Ruta del Bakalao scene, where techno, acid house, house and early forms of makina circulated. Chimo Bayo developed a direct style based on fast electronic rhythms, shouted choruses and a very physical relationship to the dancefloor. After his first maxi singles Ráyate and Ráyate 2 on Valencia's Raya Records label, he broadened his audience with Así me gusta a mí in 1991, which became one of the most recognizable tracks of early-1990s Spanish dance culture. He followed with singles such as Química, Bombas and La tía Enriqueta, often in collaboration with composer-producer Germán Bou. Since the end of the golden age of Valencian clubs, Chimo Bayo has maintained a steady stage presence, especially at events linked to festive electronic music and nostalgia/’remember’ formats, while remaining connected to the popular history of Spanish techno.
