Chris Cacavas
Born in Tucson, Arizona in 1961, Chris Cacavas belongs to the American rock scene connected to desert rock, roots rock and 1980s- and 1990s-indie rock. Based in Los Angeles in the early 1980s with Dan Stuart, he participated in the formation of Green on Red, a band associated with the Paisley Underground movement, before developing a solo career from the late 1980s. Chris Cacavas then developed a songwriting-centered writing style, between spare guitars, keyboards, folk rock, country rock and melancholic-toned ballads, with a direct approach that remains anchored in the American tradition without renouncing an alternative sensibility. His first solo album, Chris Cacavas and Junkyard Love, appeared in 1989, followed notably by Good Times in 1992, Pale Blonde Hell in 1994, New Improved Pain in 1995, Anonymous in 1997, Self Taut in 2004, Love’s Been Discontinued in 2009 and Burn The Maps in 2020. Along this journey, Chris Cacavas has also crossed paths with musicians from the Tucson and Los Angeles scenes and a broader network of independent Americana, while continuing regular live work. Based in Germany since the 2000s, Chris Cacavas now shares his journey between the heritage of American alternative rock and the continuity of songwriter work.
