Davide Ambrogio

Born in Calabria, Davide Ambrogio develops a body of work as a singer and multi-instrumentalist rooted in the oral tradition of southern Italy, which he makes dialogue with more contemporary forms—between folk, vocal exploration and spare acoustic textures. His path rests on the study and reinterpretation of popular repertoires, with particular attention given to languages, timbres, and the ritual uses of singing. Davide Ambrogio released his first solo album, Evocazioni e Invocazioni, in 2021, where lament, modal singing, drones and sober arrangements surface, in an approach that links popular memory and personal writing. This record is noticed in several circles devoted to world music and accompanies Davide Ambrogio’s emergence on stages dedicated to revived traditions and cross-border forms. His second album, Mater Nullius, extends this approach by turning it toward reflection on the separation between humans and nature, through a set of pieces where the voice remains at the center of a musical language both archaic and contemporary. Davide Ambrogio continues this aesthetic—dense yet pared-down—founded on the presence of breath, repetition, narrative tension, and a close relationship between music, words, and symbolic charge.
