BMG

Under the name BMG, Brendan M. Gillen has developed from Detroit a trajectory closely linked to the most exploratory margins of American electronic music. A DJ, producer and live performer, BMG founded the label Interdimensional Transmissions, which became a touchstone for a certain idea of Detroit techno and electro—rawer, more acidic, psychedelic and deliberately off-kilter. His path also intersects with Ectomorph, a duo formed with Erika, where a taste for dry rhythms, taut basslines and futuristic atmospheres—drawn from both electro and underground techno—becomes clear. Over the years BMG has held a lasting place in the clubs, warehouses and festival circuits associated with this scene, while extending a party culture rooted in local history. The No Way Back and Return to the Source nights linked to Brendan M. Gillen illustrate this continuity between Detroit’s night-time heritage and more contemporary forms of dance music. At BMG, both selection and production move along a line where physical intensity, attention to detail and musical curiosity meet.
