ELECTRONICOS FANTASTICOS!

Born in Tokyo around musician and artist Ei Wada, ELECTRONICOS FANTASTICOS! took shape in 2015 as a collective project blending music, sound art and performance, with the idea of turning obsolete electronic devices into playable instruments. The collective, with no fixed lineup, brings together musicians, engineers, designers and builders depending on the project, based mainly in Tokyo, Hitachi, Kyoto and Nagoya. ELECTRONICOS FANTASTICOS!’s aesthetic sits at the intersection of electronic music, percussion, installation and an approach Wada calls “electromagnetic punk,” working from cathode‑ray televisions, fans, barcode readers and other recycled objects whose vibrations, signals and scan patterns become rhythmic material. After launching as part of an artist residency, the group developed its own instruments within the Nicos Orchestra‑Lab and quickly appeared in contexts related to contemporary art, festivals and experimental scenes, notably at the Kenpoku Art Festival in 2016 and with the Electro‑Magnetic Bon‑Dance held beneath Tokyo Tower in 2017. In 2018 the project received a mention at Ars Electronica, aiding its international circulation.
