La Jalouzie

La Jalouzie is born from the collaboration between Elodie Messmer and Stelios Lazarou, aka stelios.exe, in a project that brings together medieval writing, singing and electronics within an intentionally abrasive form. The duo works from 14th‑century compositions, performed in Old French, relocating them to a ground of taut rhythms, saturated textures and punk energy, with affinities both to early music and to cold, jarring electronics. La Jalouzie is part of Elodie Messmer’s already rich career—she has been involved with Bumbac, Lolomis and Zakouska—while Stelios Lazarou continues his work as a sound artist, flautist and composer. Their aesthetic rests on the friction between past and present rather than on reconstruction, transforming medieval poetic material into dark, carnal and rough songs. In La Jalouzie, voice, baroque references and electronic pulses move forward together, without a heritage-minded approach, to produce music that belongs as much to historical reinterpretation as to experimental gesture.
