Julian Ess

Based in Barcelona after leaving France at 18, Julian Ess built his path within the Catalan club scene, where he fully discovered electronic music and refined a direct, dark techno aesthetic designed for the dancefloor. He made his first DJ appearances at several local venues before becoming a resident at club Rachdingue — an experience that accompanied his artistic development and firmly placed him in Barcelona’s techno landscape. Over the years Julian Ess expanded his activity across Europe with appearances at events and clubs such as ADE in Amsterdam, Inox Festival in Paris, Egg London and Le Dièze in Montpellier. Alongside his sets he developed his own structures with the label Substeal Records and the Somnia project, focused on organising techno events in Spain. As a producer, Julian Ess champions a sound driven by emphatic rhythms, taut textures and direct, forward energy, with releases on labels such as Bitten, IAMT and Transmit, as well as a collaboration with Mha Iri.
