Hyph11E

Based in Shanghai, Hyph11E has been developing since the late 2010s an electronic music that sits between bass music, deconstructed club, abrasive techno and industrial textures. Their first EP, Vanishing Cinema, was released in 2017 on the SVBKVLT label and established the foundations of a tense, dark and percussive sonic language in step with the evolution of the Chinese club scene. Hyph11E’s work then moved beyond that local context to experimental music circles and contemporary club environments, with appearances in Berlin for CTM, in Kraków for Unsound and at the Nyege Nyege Festival in Uganda. Alongside sets and productions, Hyph11E has developed several visual collaborations: a project with the artist Shuang Li was shown at Prada Rong Zhai in Shanghai, while an audiovisual piece made with WangNewOne was screened on public displays in Tokyo via Neo Shibuya TV. Through broken rhythms, thick bass and a pronounced sense of tension, Hyph11E shapes a hybrid, direct and experimental club music.
