Les Grands Hurleurs

In Quebec, Les Grands Hurleurs coalesced around Nicolas Pellerin, a musician from Saint-Élie-de-Caxton who performs on violin, vocals and foot percussion (podorythmie). Their approach links Quebec’s traditional music to more contemporary arrangements. First launched as Nicolas Pellerin et les Grands Hurleurs in the late 2000s, the project was built as a trio and evolved through various lineups to a quartet, while maintaining a creative traditional thread that blends dance tunes, songs, acoustic strings and tight rhythmic work. The first album, Nicolas Pellerin et les Grands Hurleurs, was released in 2009, followed by Petit grain d’or (2011), 3/4 Fort (2015), Chouïa (2018), Ellipse (2021) and Layon (2024). Across these records, Les Grands Hurleurs broaden their palette with touches of folk, rock, jazz and world music and, at times, more contemporary textures, without losing their Quebec roots. They have also undertaken several one-off collaborations, notably with Jorane, Élage Diouf and Les Sœurs Boulay, and perform regularly on stages and at festivals in Quebec, elsewhere in Canada, in Europe and in the United States.
