Emily Jean Flack

Rooted in a Canadian musical culture where Celtic repertoires occupy a central place, Emily Jean Flack is developing a project that sits between pop, contemporary folk and traditional Irish singing. From a family of musicians — her mother Denise Flack is a member of the Canadian group Leahy — Emily Jean Flack began with percussive dance before taking up piano and then voice; this path fostered a strong sense of rhythm and melody. Trained at the Irish World Academy at the University of Limerick, where she completed a master’s degree in traditional Irish singing in 2017, she has refined a songwriting approach that brings ballads, folk heritage and pop production into dialogue. Her first EP, Throwing Shapes, was released in 2019, produced by Pete Wallace and mixed by David Bottrill; the release was accompanied by activity across Canada, Ireland and the UK, including appearances at JunoFest and at the Irish Arts Center in New York alongside Bill Whelan. On stage, Emily Jean Flack alternates between original songs, Celtic‑inspired pieces and step dance, and she also works in transmission contexts such as workshops, vocal teaching and choral projects.
