Geoff Rickly

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, and raised in Dumont, New Jersey, Geoff Rickly emerged in the late 1990s on the American post-hardcore scene as the singer and principal lyricist of Thursday. With that band, he developed a taut, melodic songwriting style at the crossroads of post-hardcore, emo, post-punk and alternative rock, heard on records such as Full Collapse (2001), War All the Time (2003), Common Existence (2009) and No Devolución (2011). At the same time, Rickly took part in other projects that shifted his range toward harsher or more atmospheric forms, notably United Nations, with screamo and experimental hardcore edges, and No Devotion, formed in 2014 with former members of Lostprophets; their albums Permanence (2015) and No Oblivion (2022) continue a darker, melodic vein. He has also pursued a more stripped-down solo output—Mixtape 1 (2012) and Darker Matter/// Mixtape 2 (2013)—frequently contributed guest vocals to punk, emo and indie rock acts, and founded the label Collect Records in 2009.
