Tiny Vipers
Under the name Tiny Vipers, Jesy Fortino developed in Seattle a spare form of American folk centered on voice, acoustic guitar and slow compositions in which silence plays a significant role. Emerging in the mid‑2000s within the West Coast indie/DIY milieu, the project is distinguished by understated, introspective songwriting, occasionally threaded with droning accents and an almost meditative tension. After several early recordings, Fortino signed to Sub Pop and released Hands Across the Void in 2007, a debut that established her aesthetic: pared‑down arrangements, subdued melodies and an austere atmosphere. Life on Earth followed in 2009, extending this direction by modestly broadening the sonic palette without abandoning its economy of means. Across these records, Tiny Vipers situates itself within a tradition of minimal folk, at times evoking an old ballad, while maintaining a contemporary stance tied to American independent scenes.
