Blue Cinema

Born in Cambridge, Blue Cinema began to take shape in 2022 around Malka on vocals and Gigi on guitar, later expanding into a quintet with Annie on keyboards, Jack on bass and J Mass on drums. Blue Cinema develops a blend of shoegaze, dreampop, synth-pop, psychedelic rock and new wave, built on diffuse guitars, layers of keyboards, airy melodies and a rhythm section that is more direct than vaporous. The overall sound evokes the legacy of Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine and New Order as much as a more contemporary take on British alternative pop. On stage, Blue Cinema quickly became part of the UK indie circuit, playing shows in Cambridge, London and other cities, and opening for the Miki Berenyi Trio and Chastity Belt. The band also featured on the bill at the Shiny New Model Festival, situated close to current shoegaze and indie scenes. In terms of releases, Blue Cinema put out the EP Passages, which establishes the basis of their sonic identity, while the track “Cerebro” highlights their taste for enveloping atmospheres and the contrast between pop reverie and electric tension.
