Linx

Active in the UK between 1980 and 1983, Linx were part of the early-1980s British funk and soul wave, with a supple, danceable sound driven by clean bass lines, prominent keyboards and the vocals of David Grant. The band initially brought together Andy Duncan, Bob Carter, Canute Edwards, David Grant, Junior Giscombe and Peter Martin, before narrowing in 1980 to the duo of Grant and Martin. Linx drew attention with the singles “You're Lying”, “Intuition” and “So This Is Romance”, which neatly capture their balance of soul, funk and pop songwriting. The group released two studio albums in 1981, Intuition and Go Ahead, on Chrysalis Records. This period also includes Linx's contribution to the NME cassette C81 with the track “Don’t Get in My Way”, often situated within British scenes that were open to crossings between pop, groove and new experimental approaches. After Linx split in early 1983, David Grant pursued a solo career, while Linx’s brief but identifiable role in English soul-funk remains remembered.
