Northcote

Launched in 2008 around Canadian singer‑songwriter Matt Goud, Northcote sits at the intersection of folk rock, Americana and punk heritage, with direct songwriting, spare melodies and an intensity that stems as much from acoustic confession as from road‑tested rock. Previously a member of the post‑hardcore band Means, Matt Goud steered Northcote toward a more personal format, sometimes solo, sometimes accompanied, in which acoustic guitars, measured electric arrangements and a deep voice occupy the central focus. Based in British Columbia after beginnings tied to the Canadian Prairies scene, Northcote gradually found its place on the independent circuits of North America and Europe, in contact with scenes where songcraft, melodic punk and roots rock meet. The project's trajectory crystallised with the album Northcote in 2013 and Hope Is Made of Steel in 2015, which continued this approach between restrained folk and rock tension. On stage, Northcote has shared bills with Frank Turner, The Gaslight Anthem and Hot Water Music — a context consistent with a repertoire centred on storytelling, endurance and connection with the audience.
