Marylou
Based in Berlin, Marylou, also active under the name Marylou Guerra, develops a DJing and programming practice shaped by a trajectory that began along France’s southwest coast and in Bordeaux, before moving through Paris and on to Germany. Trained in applied arts and in traditional animation-film techniques at ESAAT in Roubaix, Marylou creates dialogues between music, image and vernacular cultures in selections where traditional music, bass music, noise, psychedelic dub, improvisation and avant-garde electronics intersect. Her approach emphasizes textures, percussion, repetition and the circulation between sound archives, the club and experimental listening. After years on Bordeaux’s soundsystem and club scenes, Marylou also worked within Paris’s jazz and nightlife circles as an author and promoter, then became a resident on Rinse France, where she invited, among others, Steve O’Malley, Mike Cooper, DJ Pete, WaqWaq Kingdom and Kassem Mosse. She continued this radio work on Cashmere Radio in Berlin, with appearances on NTS and Boxout India. She has been heard in a wide range of contexts, from Berghain to Cafe OTO, from Freerotation to Organik Festival, and at CTM, OHM, Arkaoda, La Station and Concrete.
