Mr Bruce
Emerging from the British scene, Mr Bruce spent thirteen years as the vocalist of The Correspondents, a project led with producer Chucks, aka Tim Cole, that already combined club energy, pop theatricality and a taste for the offbeat. Tim Cole’s death in 2020 brought the group to an end and opened a new chapter for Mr Bruce as a solo artist, working with producer Angus Kemp. Under his own name he has developed a more fragmented, personal songwriting approach at the intersection of hyperpop, glitch pop and art pop, featuring broken rhythms, bursts of dancehall and more ambient passages that surface themes of grief, the body and the search for calm. This deliberately contrasted aesthetic retains strong coherence thanks to Mr Bruce’s voice and his very direct way of marrying emotional tension with a danceable pulse. After an EP and several singles he has performed this repertoire live in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Chile. Mr Bruce also joined Hard Art, a collective of artists, activists and scientists working on projects related to climate and democratic crises, where he led several initiatives.
