DJ Vadim
Born in Leningrad in 1976 and settled in London from a young age, DJ Vadim developed from the mid-1990s a personal approach to instrumental hip‑hop, blending downtempo, dub and soul. After several self-released maxi singles and the creation of his Jazz Fudge label, he was noticed by Ninja Tune and released in 1996 the album 'U.S.S.R. Repertoire: The Theory of Verticality', the first step in a discography where abstract beats, electronic textures and nods to Jamaican sound systems intersect. DJ Vadim followed with 'U.S.S.R. Life from the Other Side' in 1999 and 'The Art of Listening' in 2002, confirming a taste for slow constructions, melodic loops and the integration of rap and sung vocals. With the One Self project in the mid-2000s and later the band The Electric, he explored song formats and group dynamics while remaining the central producer. Having lived in several European cities, he performed numerous concerts, DJ sets and residencies, notably around the album 'The Soundcatcher' (2007) and 'U Can’t Lurn Imaginashun' (2009). Through releases such as 'Don't Be Scared' (2012), 'Dubcatcher' (2014), 'Dubcatcher 2' (2016) and 'Double Sided' (2019), DJ Vadim continues to work at the crossroads of hip‑hop, reggae and bass music, with a consistent focus on vocal collaborations and club grounding.
