Lowlife
Formed in Winnipeg, Canada, Lowlife brings together four musicians — Caitlin Brakel, Ansa Chaudhry, Meghan Stanger and Brooke Boileau — around a project launched in summer 2020 between garage and basement, initially as a space for writing and sonic experimentation. The band took shape when three high-school friends contacted their drummer via Instagram, before playing their first shows in the local Winnipeg scene in autumn 2021. Early on, Lowlife explored a more upfront register, marked by melodic guitars and a heavier rock energy, evident in their early original tracks “Ego Check” and “History Repeats”. Through live performances and composition work, Lowlife evolved its approach toward a clearer blend of indie rock and alternative pop, without losing a direct, nervous guitar-bass-drums core. The singles “Nice Guys Finish Fast” and “dizzy & alone” reflect this move toward tighter songwriting, between catchy melodies, pop tension and cutting guitars. Lowlife’s lyrics are drawn primarily from personal experience, with recurring themes such as breakups, relationships and power dynamics.
