Blacknuss

Originating from Stockholm’s Fasching club, Blacknuss took shape in the early 1990s as a Swedish collective with a rotating lineup, anchored by drummer Martin Jonsson. The project began in a jazz‑funk vein, rich in groove, soul and hip‑hop, and over time shifted more decisively toward soul and R&B. Blacknuss gained recognition in the mid‑1990s with tracks such as It Should Have Been You, Last Night A DJ Saved My Life and Dinah, working as a collective that alternated singers, rappers and instrumentalists. Numerous figures from the Swedish scene contributed, including Titiyo, Jennifer Brown, Awa Manneh, Stephen Simmonds, Christian Falk and Esbjörn Svensson. Blacknuss’s discography includes Made in Sweden (1994), Allstars (1996), 3 (2000), Gold (2004), Blacknuss & Norrbotten Big Band on Tour (2007) and 2.0 (2016). Situated between club culture, contemporary soul and a funk heritage, Blacknuss maintains a flexible identity tied as much to collective performance as to studio work.
