Paquita Gordon
Active since the late 2000s between Venice, London, Berlin and Sicily, Paquita Gordon has built a career as a DJ, promoter and artistic director focused on the circulation of music between club contexts, art spaces and cultural projects. She began in 2008, later founded AV-Netwerk across London, Berlin and Venice, and in 2013 launched il Vulcano in Sicily, the organization behind the Stereocybele and Capofaro Space & Sound festivals on the islands of Pantelleria and Salina. In 2016 she also presented Paroxysm, an experimental live work constructed from volcanic field recordings made by Robert Lippok and Giuseppe Cordaro, as part of a twelve-hour radio broadcast from Stromboli with Roberto Cacciapaglia and Gigi Masin. Her vinyl sets articulate two complementary strands: one open to psychedelia, ambient, dub, folk, spiritual jazz and various traditions of Black music; the other rooted in club culture, ranging from house and techno to drum and bass and trance. This hybrid language has taken her to venues such as the ICA in London, MACRO in Rome, PAC and Pirelli HangarBicocca in Milan as well as festivals and clubs like Terraforma, Dekmantel, Epizode, Panorama Bar, De School and DC10, alongside tours with David August and a residency at Plastic in Milan.
