Henning Stærk
Born in 1949 in Holstebro, Henning Stærk entered the history of Danish rock with a career that began in the mid-1960s in local groups such as The Poisons and Chapter Three, before joining Jackie Boo Flight and later Spillemændene. In the late 1970s Stærk was part of Gnags, singing and playing drums, percussion and harmonica on several of the band’s albums between 1977 and 1981. His solo trajectory took shape with the EP Henning Stærk in 1981 and One Nite Stand in 1984, recorded live in Copenhagen. Subsequent releases—Soul Feet (1985), Tender Touch (1987), Dreams to Remember (1989), Hard to Handle (1991), Smalltown Saturday Night (1992) and Whatever Gets You Thru The Night (1994)—established a repertoire where rock’n’roll, blues, soul and country intersect in a direct format, driven by a rough voice and a clear taste for American standards. He continued with Somewhere Someone’s Falling In Love (1997), Let A Man Stand Up (1998), the hit HOUSE (2000), STÆRK (2004), Old Time Rocker (2009) and Big Boss Man (2023). Long established in the Aarhus scene, Henning Stærk has also collaborated with musicians and producers such as Billy Cross, Mike Vernon, Gus Dudgeon and Joe Hardy.
