DJ Nature
Emerging from Bristol’s sound system culture, Milo Johnson initially made his name circulating within reggae, hip‑hop and dance music before a late‑1980s stint in Japan, where DJ Nature met Hiroshi Fujiwara and K.U.D.O. and recorded tracks for Major Force marked by a hip‑hop aesthetic, including Return Of The Original Art Form. Settling in New York in 1989 with Frank Mendez, then affiliated with Nu Groove Records, Milo Johnson later developed a series of releases under the alias Nature Boy on Tomato, Black Label, Dubweizer and his own Ruff Disco Records. This period established the foundations of a supple, warm sound at the intersection of deep house, jazz and disco, with a groove inherited from sound system culture. As DJ Nature he continued in that vein with 12″ releases on Golf Channel, Phil South’s label, notably Destiny Reprise and This Side Of Heaven. The 2012 album Return Of The Savage extended this approach — organic house, disco loops, rounded basslines and slow to mid‑tempo rhythms — which DJ Nature continues to champion in club circuits oriented toward house and disco across New York, Europe and Japan.
