Mariana Aydar

Born in São Paulo in 1980, Mariana Aydar grew up in a musical environment tied to the Brazilian scene before beginning her professional career in the early 2000s, first as a backing vocalist for Miltinho Edilberto and then at the helm of the forró group Caruá. Trained in singing, cello and guitar, with a stint at Berklee and a stay in Paris, Mariana Aydar develops an approach that links MPB, samba and above all the repertoires of the Brazilian Northeast, from forró to baião, including xote, xaxado and frevo. Her first album Kavita 1 was released in 2006, followed by Peixes, Pássaros, Pessoas in 2009 and Cavaleiro Selvagem Aqui Te Sigo in 2011, conceived with Letieres Leite and marked by more prominent Afro-Brazilian rhythms. With Pedaço Duma Asa in 2015 and Veia Nordestina in 2019, Mariana Aydar more clearly centers her work on forró, in a contemporary reading but anchored in popular traditions. This orientation continues in Mariana e Mestrinho, a joint album released in 2024 with accordionist and singer Mestrinho, around original compositions and classics associated with Dominguinhos. On stage as in the studio, Mariana Aydar moves between festivals, collaborations with artists of different generations and projects related to transmissive Brazilian music.
