Lechuga Zafiro
Under the name Lechuga Zafiro, Pablo de Vargas creates electronic music from Uruguay that blends club culture, sound research and Latin American rhythms. Active under this alias since 2012, he first drew attention with the track Sapo de Manga, released in 2013 on the Cómeme label, a piece where dry percussion, organic textures and dance-oriented structures converse with Afro-Uruguayan candombe, Mexican tribal rhythms and the energy of kuduro. His work also rests on an experimental approach to sound, nourished by field recordings and a careful attention to timbre and dynamics. Alongside his solo productions, Pablo de Vargas has been involved with the group F5 and the comparsa C1080, extending the connection between traditional drumming and electronic forms on stage and in workshops. Lechuga Zafiro has played in club scenes across South America, Europe and North America, appearing in both festive and experimental contexts, including the Unsound festival in Poland. His DJ sets reflect this trajectory, mixing baile funk, bass music and his own productions in a rhythmic-collage logic that circulates between Latin American scenes.
