Founded in Milan in 2008 by the Italian sound engineer Alessandro “Otto” Galli, arottenbit produces confrontational electronic music where abrasive chiptune, dark techno, hardcore punk, noise and sludge-like heaviness intersect. The project was built deliberately outside the nostalgic uses often associated with these sound textures, favouring a physical, fast and saturated approach designed for both live performance and the club. Active on stage long before its first full-length release, arottenbit initially circulated through demos and live sets, before releasing the album You Don’t Know What Chiptune Is in 2024. Over the years arottenbit has shared bills with bands from punk, metal and experimental scenes, toured with Master Boot Record, and appeared at festivals such as Roadburn, Hellfest and Brutal Assault. Alessandro Galli’s work as a sound engineer, particularly with artists linked to heavy and alternative music, also informs the project’s precision in texture and impact. In 2025 the live format evolves under the name Arottenbit Drums Commando, with drummers Riccardo Nicoloso and Edoardo Nicoloso, who further reinforce the percussive dimension and rhythmic tension of arottenbit’s repertoire.
