Kris Kuldkepp
Based in Hamburg, Germany, Kris Kuldkepp develops a practice situated between experimental music, performance and music theatre, focusing on the perception of sound, its materiality and how it resonates within space. Trained on the double bass in classical and early music repertories, he has gradually moved this instrumental base toward more open forms where acoustic playing, electronics and instrument-making outside traditional frameworks intersect. This approach gives his music a physical and spatial dimension, attentive to sound behaviour as much as to its composition. Since 2019 Kris Kuldkepp has regularly collaborated with director Lisa Pottstock on music-theatre projects addressing contemporary political issues, including industrial Mechthild at Theater Magdeburg and Der Geheimnisvoller Koffer von Herrn Benjamin at the State Theatre of Tübingen. His career also includes collaborations with Jeff Surak, the Ensemble of Estonian Electronic Music Society and MOLJEBKA PVLSE. Alongside his artistic work, he serves as technical director of the Electronic Studio of the Sound Arts and Creative Music Technology Lab at the Musikhochschule Lübeck.
