Maria Antonietta

Under the name Maria Antonietta, Letizia Cesarini has, since the late 2000s, developed a style that sits between indie pop and indie rock, driven by a direct vocal delivery and lyrics in which the personal often intersects with religious, literary and everyday references. Born in Pesaro in Italy’s Marche region, Maria Antonietta was first part of the duo Young Wrists before recording solo the self-produced English-language album Marie Antoinette Wants to Suck Your Young Blood in 2010. The shift to Italian became clear with Maria Antonietta in 2012, produced by Brunori Sas, followed by Sassi in 2014 and Deluderti in 2018, which extended a formula combining guitars, pop melodies and autobiographical songwriting. Maria Antonietta then released La tigre assenza in 2023, after several years of touring, an EP with Chewingum in 2015 and various collaborations, notably with Tre Allegri Ragazzi Morti, Laila Al Habash, Francesco Bianconi and Colombre. In 2025 Maria Antonietta reunited with Colombre for Luna di miele, a joint album that continues a longstanding collaboration. Alongside her discography, she has also composed for theatre and published the book Sette ragazze imperdonabili in 2019.
