Madeleine Roger
Based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Madeleine Roger develops a folk‑writing that sits in a sober acoustic vein, centered on the song, with a marked attention paid to lyrics, melodies and spare arrangements. Active since the second half of the 2010s, she released her debut album Cottonwood in 2019, which establishes her on the Canadian folk scene and accompanies her appearances in circuits dedicated to song and roots music. Her work moves forward in an intimate register, between contemporary folk, singer‑songwriter and light Americana touches, without production overload. In 2024, she releases Nerve, a ten‑track record written at Isokon Studio in Kingston, New York, which extends this approach by widening the sonic palette while remaining faithful to a form of narrative clarity. In the same year, she also appears as a guest vocalist and co‑writer on Glasswing by The Fretless, a Canadian ensemble from the folk and acoustic scenes, a collaboration that illuminates her link to a more collective and arranged repertoire. Between personal project and external collaborations, Madeleine Roger thus traces a path anchored in the Canadian scene, with a direct, sensitive folk aesthetic and no effects.
