Mai Mai Mai

Led by Italian musician and producer Toni Cutrone, the audiovisual project Mai Mai Mai has been developing since the early 2010s a sonic investigation at the intersection of experimental electronic music, Mediterranean folklore, ambient and industrial textures. Based in Italy, Mai Mai Mai is part of the European noise and experimental scenes, presenting performances in which electronic material is combined with archival imagery, films and visual work conceived as an extension of the sound. The compositions rely on field recordings, voices and sounds from rituals and popular festivals, reworked into slow drones, repetitive pulses and quasi-ritual motifs that probe the links between memory, spirituality and territory. A significant strand of the project has been built through residencies and travel, notably in Palestine between Bethlehem and Ramallah, where Toni Cutrone incorporated local archives and collaborations with native musicians into a practice conceived as a sonic cartography of the spaces traversed.
