Frank Carter
Born on 27 April 1984 in Hemel Hempstead, England, Frank Carter developed an early interest in punk rock and drawing, which led him into both music and tattooing. After his first teenage band, All Night Drive, Carter founded the hardcore punk band Gallows in 2005, known for abrasive lyrics shaped by the British social context. With Gallows he recorded Orchestra of Wolves (2006) and Grey Britain (2009) before leaving the project in 2011 due to artistic differences. That same year he moved to New York and launched Pure Love with guitarist Jim Carroll, shifting his songwriting toward a more melodic, straightforward rock sound, realized on the album Anthems (2013), before the duo paused activities in 2014. In 2015 he returned to prominence with Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, a band blending hardcore, alternative rock and pop-leaning influences, showcased on Blossom (2015), Modern Ruin (2017), End of Suffering (2019), Sticky (2021) and Dark Rainbow (2024); the lyrics address themes such as anxiety, addiction and human relationships. Alongside his work as a singer, Frank Carter continues a career as a tattoo artist in London at the Rose of Mercy studio. In 2024 he joined Steve Jones, Glen Matlock and Paul Cook on stage for a series of concerts and tours covering the Sex Pistols’ repertoire, a run that continued in 2025 in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
