Cryptic Shift

Formed in Leeds, West Yorkshire, in 2013, Cryptic Shift operates in a vein of technical death and thrash metal where the classic aggression of extreme metal meets more progressive structures. Initially active with the demos Old Chapel Demos (2014) and Beyond the Celestial Demo (2015), Cryptic Shift quickly honed a dense songwriting approach featuring tempo changes, razor-sharp riffs, guttural vocals and instrumental passages that also draw on progressive metal, psychedelia and at times jazz or doom. After a split with Beastial Invasion in 2015 and the EP Beyond the Celestial Realms in 2016, the Leeds band gradually settled into a four-piece led by Xander Bradley, who also took over vocal duties after the early period. Cryptic Shift released their debut album, Visitations from Enceladus, in 2020 on Blood Harvest, with a palette marked by cosmic and science-fiction imagery already present in earlier tracks. The band's trajectory continued with Overspace & Supertime in 2026, a follow-up in which technicality, narrative and tension remain at the core of their identity.
