Farmer Jason

Born in Kewanee, Illinois and raised in Sheffield in an agricultural environment, Jason Ringenberg began in the early 2000s to develop his parallel persona Farmer Jason, conceived for young audiences after having led his career in American rock with Jason & the Scorchers in Nashville. Under this name, Farmer Jason transposes part of his rural universe into children's songs that blend country rock, folk and Americana with simple writing, focused on animals, farm life and the relationship to nature. The project takes shape with the album A Day at the Farm with Farmer Jason in 2003, then continues with Rockin’ in the Forest with Farmer Jason in 2006, Nature Jams in 2012 and Christmas on the Farm with Farmer Jason in 2014. The aesthetics remain acoustic or electrified with lightness, in a direct register that preserves the energy of rock while adapting it to a family setting. Farmer Jason thus sits within the broader career of Jason Ringenberg, a musician active since the 1980s between cowpunk, alt-country and American songwriting, while occupying a distinct place on stages dedicated to young audiences and family concert formats.
