Sweethearts
Formed in Denmark around the turn of the 1990s, Sweethearts develop a world where pop, rock and festive Danish variety music intersect in a decidedly danceable register. Centered on singer and actress Pernille Højmark, the group operates as an expanded collective, with a rhythm section and brass that reinforce the orchestral dimension of their concerts. Sweethearts first gained attention with Danish-language covers of standards from the 1960s to the 1980s and reinterpretations of classics from the 'dansktop' scene, then gradually incorporated original compositions, often written in a direct, humorous and popular tone. Their sound rests on simple grooves, chorus-sung refrains and a consciously retro aesthetic close to Nordic schlager, designed for festival stages, town celebrations and concert venues where the audience remains close to the band. Over the years Sweethearts have toured widely across Denmark, appeared on numerous television events and maintained an identity firmly rooted in the Danish language and the local 'party band' culture.
