Knife

Formed in Germany in the late 2010s, Knife plays fast, abrasive heavy metal that draws equally from 1980s speed metal and more extreme influences. Knife operates as a four-piece centered on direct riffs, high tempos and a high-pitched vocal delivery with thrash- and black-metal inflections; the lyrics revisit occult imagery, urban violence and classic metal mythology. After an initial period cutting their teeth on the local underground scene, Knife released a self-titled debut studio album in 2021, which established the band within a network of clubs and specialist festivals across Europe. In 2023 the album Heaven Into Dust extended this direction by emphasizing the narrative, compact nature of the compositions while remaining rooted in a raw, no-frills aesthetic. Knife stands out for a deliberately tight approach to heavy and speed metal, favoring short formats and frontal energy, and belongs to a generation of European bands that rework these codes without radically modernizing them; not to be confused with the Swedish electronic duo The Knife.
